Meet Jan Jenson
Jan Jenson lives in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and in the winter, Pharr, Texas. That is where she learned to carve, While attending a Rio Grande Valley Wood Carving show, she saw a carving that grabbed her attention. After learning how it was done, Jan took it from there. She developed her own technique and started creating designs using graph paper. This fascination lead to many designs which she put on boxes, which she entered into competition. She did very well, earning blue ribbons. Soon she was asked to teach. As students learned Old World Chip Carving's style, they wanted more of her patterns. That led to writing the first book. But more patterns were developed. More blue ribbons and even a Best of Show ribbon. That lead to the second and then the third book. Each book has over 100 pages, printed in color with a wire binding which makes it easy to copy patterns.
Jan's profession was teaching for 25 years, then tour directing before starting to carve. She loves teaching and watching students mix and match patterns to come up with their own patterns.
